Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has given the Diwali gift to the central government employees by increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 5 to 17% in the Union Cabinet meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday morning.
Mr. Javadekar said, “It is one of the highest raises in the last several years. This will bring cheer to the working class ahead of Diwali, the central government has been announcing steps for many sectors.”
Around 50 lakh government employees will get benefit from the move. The hike is based on the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission, which will cost the bank Rs 16,000 crore and will be effective from July, this year.
