After shifting from its temporary campus on Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) premises to a swanky permanent campus in Mihan in July last year, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur is now all set to become fully functional with a daycare facility, inpatient department (IPD) and super specialty services.
The IPD services will be launched by July this year, said Maj Gen (Dr) Vibha Dutta, director, and CEO of Nagpur AIIMS. Super-specialty services will start in the next one-and-a-half year.
Dr. Dutta was speaking to TOI after Arun Singhal, special secretary of the ministry of health and family welfare, visited AIIMS on Monday and conducted the governing body meeting (GBM).
“Special secretary received positive feedback from patients and their relatives on the health care services provided. He inspected the newly-constructed minor OTs, wards, and visited clinical departments in the OPD complex. He praised AIIMS, Nagpur, for establishing the entire set-up within a year,” said Dr. Dutta.
“He also appreciated the progress of AIIMS since its inception and assured that governing body will facilitate and ensure that AIIMS achieves excellent results,” she said.
Currently, AIIMS, Nagpur, has 149 students from two initial batches. The outpatient department (OPD) is functional and patient footfall is also increasing.
Singhal also visited the lecture halls, library and the pre-clinical laboratories of anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry. He interacted with students and appreciated the faculty for their innovative teaching-learning methods. Other facilities such as student hostels, dining areas, and guesthouses were also appreciated.
He also reviewed various construction sites on the campus. Along with the in-charge and staff of the hospital construction agency, he took stock of the ongoing projects and issued directives to expedite the work.
