Auto Expo 2020 opened for the general public on 7 February and ended on 12 February 2020. The 15th iteration of Asia’s biggest automobile exhibition has a jam-packed event, attracted thousands of visitors every day. It has also been flooded with a wide array of new vehicles making their debut as well as some new automakers marking their entry in India. But in all honesty, not all has been well and dandy with the current Auto Expo as it has not been as exciting as its previous iterations. Not only has low participation from automakers taken away from the show’s charm, but even the ones present have failed to meet people’s expectations. Here are five major disappointments from the Greater Noida Auto Expo 2020.
1. No surprises
Without mincing words, allow us to say that this time’s Auto Expo failed to surprise us. This is because, in today’s digital age, almost all the information about the products making an appearance at the Auto Expo 2020 was already known to us well before the show. Except for Tata Sierra and a few products here and there, the Greater Noida Auto Expo 2020, in general, failed to surprise us.
2. Supercars and Superbikes
Superbikes and supercars are always one of the major attractions at any automobile exhibition. However, the ongoing Auto Expo is a serious let down with no supercar and only a handful of superbikes on display. If you are interested in looking at supercars, then at the most you can be excited by Mercedes-AMG range of cars or the racing car at Renault’s stall. And as for superbikes, your only option is to visit Suzuki and Aprilia’s stall where you get to see some exciting motorcycles. But that’s about it.
3. Auto Expo participants
Several prominent carmakers decided to give the ongoing Auto Expo a miss, thereby making the event less enthralling than other times. No luxury carmaker, except Mercedes-Benz, is present at Auto Expo 2020. This is a major disappointment as premium brands often bring a plethora of interesting products to automobile exhibitions. But the biggest let down at this Auto Expo has to be the absence of two-wheeler makers. Given that India is one of the largest markets for bikes and scooters, people were expecting to see some exciting two-wheelers at the show. But much to our disappointment, only Suzuki Motorcycle India and Piaggio participated in the show. And though these two companies are trying to spruce up things with superbikes like Suzuki Katana and Aprilia RSV4 1100, it is still not enough.
4. No launches or price announcement
Auto Expo is a biennial event and garners attention from media, automakers, and public from over the world. This is why automakers generally use it as a platform to launch new products. But as opposed to our expectations, carmakers decided to merely showcase or unveil their vehicles rather than launching them. Save for Kia Carnival, Mahindra eKUV100 and two launches from Mercedes-Benz, all the other new vehicles like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Gravitas, Hector Plus, etc. have just been unveiled.
5. Missing products
Mahindra participated in the Auto Expo 2020 sans the products most people were expecting it to introduce. SUVs like Thar and Scorpio, that have been spotted testing many times and are hotly anticipated products, too didn’t come to the Auto Expo 2020. Similarly, Maruti Suzuki XL5, which was reportedly making an appearance at the show was missing from the Auto Expo 2020. Other names joining this list are Hyundai Verna facelift, new i20, Renault HBC sub-compact SUV, etc.
