Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has declared 22 rooftop restaurants to be unsafe in a fire safety drill. The NMC had done this for the first time that the civic body has done the inspection and released a list of rooftop restaurants to be fire-unsafe.
According to Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) act, these restaurants are also being inspected as they have been known to violate the building by-laws.
The drive was urged by Tukaram Mundhe, on March 6. He directed officials of town planning, enforcement departments, and zone offices to conduct the inspection and initiate action under the MRTP act immediately.
According to NMC, the rooftop restaurants were being inspected for the last one month. Urban Development Department (UDD) has been questioning the NMC inaction and have asked them to submit action taken against the restaurants.
