A total of more than 4,000 students from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) and Indian Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT) have been asked to vacate their on-campus hostels at Bajaj Nagar and Seminary Hills, respectively, after the state government declared complete closure of educational institutions till March 31 to control the risk of coronavirus spread. VNIT has also closed its sprawling campus for morning and evening walkers.
The 122 postgraduate programs (2019-21) students of the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM-N), which functions from the VNIT campus, too have been asked to return home by Wednesday. IIM-N staff would work from home wherever possible, an official said.
Even Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidhyapeeth (PDKV) has asked the students at the college of agriculture in Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Akola, and Yavatmal to vacate the hostel.
Nagpur University which runs a law college and engineering college and an educational college besides 38 PG departments, too has left it to the students to decide if they want to go stay back till March 31.
Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Munde has clarified that even the private coaching classes have to shut down till March 31. I found failed to do so, strict police action will be taken under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
